
“Don’t speak statistics, speak people” Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah
The first sitting of the 4th meeting of the National Youth Parliament of Uganda convened today 17th September 2021 at the parliament of Uganda under the theme Quest for descent livelihood amidst the threat of climate change and the Covid 19 pandemic.
The sitting was officiated by Rt.Hon. speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah, together with implementing partners and donors European Union in Uganda, Faraja Africa Foundation , Action Aid Uganda, National youth council and the ministry of Gender, Labour and social works.
The August house brought to discussion about seven motions one of which includes the urge to address the spiraling teenage pregnancies among the young girls, address the reproductive health challenges amidst the pandemic, safe opening of schools, recovery of the economy, the barn of Facebook and taxes imposed on the internet among others.
The National Youth Parliament follows the series of regional youth parliaments that are held in different regions in Uganda, so to find out the challenges and possible solutions to these problems which are therefore shared to the executive parliament of Uganda for further developments.
As the Rt Hon Speaker Jocob Oulanyah Flagged off the ceremony, he urged whole August house, he to focus less on statistics but more on individuality as a clear tactic to solve challenges. “Do not speak statistics, speak people he said “
