When Olympics commentator Rob Walker, now nicknamed by Baganda as “Rob tambula” said “tonight the Nile specials will be flooding bars in Uganda”, he truly meant it because he has ever stepped his feet in Uganda. Indeed many ran to for Nile specials when Peruth Chemutai bagged the first gold for Uganda.
Well, Uganda will always make wonders when it comes to long-distance races. Today, Joshua Cheptegei added another global record to his previous world records by winning the 5000M race in the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo.
At a 12:58.15secs finish, he managed to come first and was hailed for such a stunning performance. In the 10000M, he became second behind America’s Chelimo Paul and Canada’s Ahmed Muhammad.
At his win, the Ugandan fan commenter is reported to have said, “Cheptegei becomes one of the people who’ll never pay for a Nile Special in Uganda.”
Before Cheptegei went for the 5000M race, the commenter thanked Ugandans for having tweeted about him. He wrote, “Thanks to everyone in Uganda who has tweeted me about the commentary here in Tokyo. I have been inundated with messages. I am commentating on the race tonight. I am sure Cheptegei, Kiplimo and Chelimo will do you proud. Watch out for Katri though- he’s had a great season.”
