131 Victims Rescued in Kampala Trafficking Raid:Two Suspects in Custody
In a joint operation conducted by Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan North and Nansana Division, 131 individuals were rescued from a home allegedly involved in human trafficking. The suspects, identified as Namubiru Rashida, a trainer, and Ramathan Hakim, were taken into custody on charges of trafficking people.
The investigation revealed that Musa Suna was conducting training at his unregistered “WORLD GATE” training center for the victims, who were recruited by various agents. The training purportedly aimed at preparing them for the labor market in the Middle East, specifically in catering and cleaning roles.
The victims, who had spent months in training, were kept under restrictive conditions, with their phones confiscated to prevent external communication. Initially confined in a fenced home in Nansana, they were later transferred to Akright cell, where they were eventually rescued from the residence of Alex Mary Nantongo.
Eight companies, including Cornel Recruitment Co, Janulani – Kalerwe, Swift in Wakaliga, Masaba in Kawempe (Kutano), Trinity Travel Agency in Nkrumah (Makayi Plaza), Herbrah International in Bukoto, Wamba Recruitment Agency, and Labaf Solution in Minister’s Village, Ntinda, were implicated in handing over the recruited victims.
Authorities are actively pursuing other suspects involved in the trafficking racket and are determined to bring them to justice. The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, commended the community’s vigilance, which facilitated the successful rescue operation in Kajjansi, allowing the victims to be reunited with their families.
As the case unfolds, law enforcement agencies remain resolute in their commitment to combat human trafficking, a dangerous and exploitative crime that leaves survivors and their families devastated. Efforts are underway to identify and locate all other perpetrators involved in the illegal trade.
