Gulu school of nursing and midwifery resolve strikes
Over the past two years, Gulu school of nursing and midwifery located at Koro in Gulu City off the Gulu-Kampala highway has had looming cases of strikes from the students. The most recent strike erupted on September 9th 2021 at the climax of end of semester two examinations.
The students accuse the management of the school of fraud, mismanagement of their fees, unreasonable increase of tuition, mistreatment of students, poor coordination between the Directors, Principal and Management. The student leaders decry failure of management to accept a round table talk with them to solve this, hence eruption of strike.
Today 20th September 2021, a general assembly was called in the school after the long meeting between the school management and student leaders mediated by the Deputy Resident City Commissioner Mr. Francis Rwotlonyo.
Addressing the students, Mr. Francis called for calmness in addressing the challenges and directed the management of the school to review certain decisions taken that are unfair to the students including increase in tuition. He also urged the school authorities to consequently include the student leaders in some decision makings of the school but also seek guidance from other stakeholders to avoid such errant misunderstandings. With this, the institution is set to continue with normal school programs from tomorrow September 21st, 2021.
