Retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Henry Luke Orombi in Critical Condition at Nakasero Hospital
Kampala Uganda – Henry Luke Orombi, the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, is receiving specialized care at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala after being airlifted from West Nile in severe condition. As his health deteriorated, the 72-year-old cleric was brought to the hospital on Monday evening.
According to Rev Pons Ozelle, Bishop of the Nebbi Diocese, Orombi had been vomiting and was given first aid before being transferred to Nakasero Hospital for further care. His wife accompanied him and has been by his side since his hospitalization.
The Archbishop of COU, Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, provided a positive update on Orombi’s condition on Tuesday after visiting him at the hospital. He reported that the response to medication had been positive, indicating that the retired Archbishop was on the road to recovery.
Orombi has a long history of service in the Church of Uganda, having previously served as Diocesan Youth Officer in Moyo District and Adjumani District in the West Nile sub-region from 1979 until 1986. He then served as Archdeacon at Goli in Nebbi District from 1987 until 1993, before becoming the Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, a position he held from 1993 until 2003. He was later appointed as the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, a position he held from 2004 until his retirement in 2012.
News of Orombi’s hospitalization has been met with concern and prayers from members of the Church of Uganda and the wider community. Many have taken to social media to express their support and well wishes for the retired Archbishop’s speedy recovery.
