International Youth Day Celebrations to be held scientifically
Tomorrow, Thursday the 12th of August 2021, is International Youth Day as per the United Nations. Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate the day and the celebrations will be held scientifically at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Hon. Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke, the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, told the public that the theme “Youth Innovations for Transformation of Food Systems and Sustainable Human Health”, instructs the world to examine the extent to which young people are applying their education and information.
“It is also a day on which we evaluate ourselves on the implementation of the world programme of Action on Youth. Government, Private Sector, Civil Society, and Religious Institutions plus the Youth themselves take an audit of activities/ programmes aimed at youth empowerment as they at the same time reposition themselves to do even better in the following year” she said.
Uganda continues to battle with high unemployment rates especially the youths who came up the largest number of the population in the country. Uganda has also been ranked as one of the growing populations and as one of the countries with a highly growing young population.
The International Youth Day celebrations is therefore expected to present various ideas on how the youth can use the information they have to build a strong food system as well as sustainable human health.
